Day 30: Freedom Restricted

Mass: 94.8 Kg
Mouth Watering!
Mass-Loss to date:  8.2 Kg
Mass-Loss Remaining: 8.8 Kg
Phase: Cruise

Almost half way- woot! I made an enquiry to my coach via email on the weekend. It is by far the most efficient way to get information from the program; as I said before, searching the website is pretty hopeless. I wanted to know about my new friend Maltitol...

I sent an email asking about Maltitol, found in all my new favourite sweets. I had heard that it contained as much as 70% of the usable energy as sugar, which is bad for weight-loss. I asked if I could have lollies with Maltitol, as it contained no sugar but still had a fair amount of energy.

The response I got was that Maltitol was allowed, but that sugar-free lollies weren't. This confused me a bit, as I wasn't breaking my sugar ban. Sugar-free jelly (Jell-O) and soft drinks (sodas) are allowed, but not lollies? I wasn't satisfied. I reasoned that the purpose of this diet is to educate, as well as assist in mass-loss, so further probing was appropriate. I replied by asking why some diet foods were allowed, others not?

The coach eventually responded that the allowed diet foods still retarded weight-loss, but were allowed to curb sugar cravings. Hard lollies were not allowed, despite being nutritionally very similar. This was a bit stumping; the diet instructions explicitly state I could consume as much as I wanted of diet jelly and diet soft-drink. However, diet lollies were apparently strictly banned. Yet according to the coach, the soft drinks and jelly should only be consumed in limited quantity.

It was all a bit contradictory, but in the end I decided to stick with my Maltitollies. I've been losing significant amounts of mass, and the lollies haven't been stopping that. Perhaps I'd be losing mass faster had I not been consuming the lollies, but I think I'm well on track. Nearly half-way through my mass before reaching the half way mark on my calendar. That's fine by me.
